I Don’t Want to Be Pregnant. Is Abortion My Only Option?

If you are experiencing an unintended pregnancy, you have options. Abortion is not the only choice available. If abortion doesn’t feel right for your situation, keep reading to learn more about your other options.

Parenting

It is normal to doubt your ability to parent when you first find yourself pregnant. Even women who plan their pregnancy can experience this hesitation. As your pregnancy progresses, you might feel parenting is right for you.

Because parenting is an option that requires time and resources, factors that might help you make your decision include:

  • Do you have a support system in place- Do you have family and friends that can offer the support you need?
  • What are your goals for your future- Can having a child fit into the future that you want?
  • Can you support a child- Learn about the resources available to you that can help.

If you want to consider parenting as an option, join us for classes we offer on parenting topics. Information is empowering. Learning more might give you the confidence you need to decide you can parent.

Adoption

Adoption is available for women who are sure parenting is not an option for them. Adoption can be a challenging choice. Many women find it to be rewarding, however. With adoption, you can choose the adoptive family for your child that looks most like how you want your child raised.

There are different kinds of adoptions available to best suit a birth mother.

  • Open adoption- in an open adoption, the birth mother and the adoptive parents work together to determine how much contact they want. You can choose an adoptive family that agrees to the level of involvement you want in your child’s life.
  • Semi-open adoption- If you don’t want direct communication with your child and their family, semi-open adoption allows you to communicate through a third party, like an adoption agency or adoption attorney.
  • Closed adoption- If you think having no contact with your child is best, you can choose a closed adoption. This choice means you can remain anonymous, and your personal information will remain sealed.
